Rob Elrick has announced the NAMM release of the Elrick Expat New Jazz Standard (NJS) model, the first line of import basses directly overseen by him—and the first Elrick basses offering lacquer finishes as a standard feature.
“These basses are not alternatives to my U.S.-made NJS 4- and 5-strings—they are respectable substitutes on par with their U.S. counterparts,” says Elrick. “That being said, they do have one value-added feature I cannot economically offer on my U.S. basses that is desirable to many electric bass consumers: a paint job. The Expat NJS basses have lacquer finishes, something that many mainstream bass players expect to see, we hope the finishes will broaden their market appeal and help us carve out a bigger chunk of the overall market in the U.S. and abroad.”
As on all Elrick instruments, the Expats’ components—including Elrick strings, Bartolini pickups and electronics, Hipshot hardware, and Dunlop Straplok-compatible strap buttons—are all U.S.-made. Expat NJS basses are available in natural, amber sunburst, antique tobacco sunburst, piano black, and white finishes; swamp ash bodies feature natural and amber sunburst finishes, and alder bodies feature the other colors. Each bass comes in an Elrick Zero Gravity ultra-light case. Prices start at $1,999.
